The festival opens with a solemn ecumenical service bringing together all Bafut people regardless of religious denomination. This sacred ceremony seeks divine blessings and protection for all festival activities. Representatives from Presbyterian Church, Catholic Church, Baptist Church, Indigenous Moslems, and other churches in Bafut come together in unity.
